Overview

This guide summarises the official rules that govern Port War declarations and resolutions in Foundation: Galactic Frontier, and lists the immediate benefits and protections that follow a successful occupation. All points are drawn from official game guidance.

Who can declare war

  • Only Commerce Guild Chairmen and Executive Managers may initiate a Port War. (Official rule)
  • To declare war on a Star Port, the declaring Guild must already control at least one Planet Port in that same system.
  • To declare war on a Planet Port, the declaring Guild must occupy a Star Port within the same or an adjacent star system — except for Level 1 Planet Ports, which may be attacked freely the first time.

Declaration and timing

  • War declarations enter a Declaration Phase that ends with a countdown timer. When that timer reaches zero, the assault phase begins.
  • There is a limited number of War Declarations available daily (the official guide confirms a daily cap exists but does not specify the exact number).
  • When multiple Guilds declare war on the same Port, the battle time is determined by whichever Guild declared first.
  • After the declaration concludes, the attacking Guild has a one-hour window to begin its assault.

How victory is decided

  • Ports are defended by garrison forces in the Port’s Space Station and a Port Fortress with HP.
  • When several Guilds attack simultaneously, the fleet that deals the final blow to the Port’s Fortress HP claims the victory. This rule encourages tactics where Guilds may wait for others to weaken the fortress before delivering the final strike.

Immediate effects after victory

  • Winning control of a Port grants all Guild members increased resource yields (resource buffs), access to associated trade routes, and other trade-related bonuses.
  • The first time a Port is conquered, all participating members receive an exclusive honor bonus.
  • Members who actively join the battle earn additional contribution rewards.
  • After occupying a Star Port, a Guild can nominate an Overlord. Overlord nomination grants strategic bonuses (example: a 10% increase in Attack power). There are five Overlord positions across the Province map; a Guild may hold one Overlord per quadrant.
  • Losing a Port means surrendering its trade routes, bonuses and influence.

Protection and cooldowns

  • Once a Port battle concludes, the Port enters a temporary protection period during which it cannot be attacked or have war declared against it.

Related mechanics and how to claim rewards

  • To claim Daily Rewards tied to ports: complete Trade Network Events.
  • To collect Resource Earnings from owned ports: open Guild → Ports and use the Claim button.
  • Star Ports additionally grant Trade Attempts (TA) — a 20% trade bonus when trading to that system from your Home Port — and a Stellar Halo (a global buff for all Guild members). Stellar Halo bonuses are global and apply regardless of players’ locations, but identical star-level Stellar Halo bonuses do not stack (for example, having two Level 1 stars grants that Level 1 bonus only once).
  • Each Guild may hold up to 24 Ports in total: 16 Planet Ports and 8 Star Ports.

Notes

  • These points are drawn directly from official Foundation guides on Port Occupation and related mechanics. Exact daily limits for War Declarations and some Overlord bonus values are confirmed only where specifically stated in those guides; this article does not invent unspecified figures.
